How To Burn An Extra Thousand Calories A Day

June 2005. So you want to shed that last bit of body fat? While you are eating right and burning as many calories as you can through effective exercise programming, these 10 tips will help crank your metabolic burn up to the next level! Remember, it takes 3,500 calories burned to lose a pound of fat...

  • Add intervals to your workouts - burn 150 more calories by pushing your cardio to the limit, then backing off enough to recover, then pushing yourself to the limit again
  • Increase your weights by 5% - burn another 500-600 calories a day. It's sometimes hard to go from 12 to 15 or 15 to 20 lbs with the standard dumb bell weights, but do your best to move to the next one, even if it's only for one or two repetitions. A few days of that and you'll be able to do 3 to 4 repetitions!
  • Mix up your cardio. Burn another 50-100 calories a day by switching from your favorite cardio method (like my running) to another a few days a week.
  • Avoid consecutive days off. Burn another 250-500 calories a day by not taking 2 days off in a row. Take one day, then if you are still tired, do a shorter weight session on the second day and rest again on the 3rd.
  • Split your workout in two. Burn another 100-300 calories a day by doing part of your workout in the a.m. and part in the p.m. You'll force your body to have to rev up to work twice and that burns more calories than one session.
  • Eat spicy foods. Our meals program is loaded with spice because it's a proven body fat burner! Burn another 250-500 calories a day by adding a spicy meal with red pepper into your day.
  • Record the food that you eat. Burn another 300-500 calories a day by keeping track of what you eat -- it's THE way to keep yourself at a current level.
  • Cut out all caloric beverages because they ADD UP! Burn another 50-500 a day by drinking water and coffee/tea/drinks sweetened with non-caloric sweeteners like Stevia or Splenda.
  • Drink green tea and black coffee. Burn another 50-200 calories a day by adding a bit of caffeine to your day. Caffeine is proven to improve the quality of your workouts as well as reducing appetite a bit.
  • Reduce carbs later in the day. Burn another 200-300 calories by eating your cereals, breads and grains earlier in the day so that your body has ample time to burn them.
Stay with it! As long as you don't give up, you'll get the body you desire!
