The Body Of A 16 Year Old At 59!

September 2005.

I just had a truly moving morning with 3 very special women -- all during outdoor sessions at 9am, 10:30am and 11:30am. In the eastern USA, the weather is absolutely beautiful this time of year -- blue skies, 80 degrees, puffy white clouds.

Anyway each of these women has been working with me for a little while, and each is exceeding her own expectations and the expectations of others today. Each had a story to tell me this morning and I wanted to pass them on to you in the hopes that one of them might speak to you and cause you to move faster and further than before -- to reach for and attain new heights. That's my hope for you.

So, my first session was with Adele, a just-turned-59 female who has been working with me for about a year. I got Adele's permission to use her name this morning (and forgot to ask the other two). When I met Adele, she was overweight and overstressed and had been basically sedentary her whole adult life. And, she had several physical conditions that she battled with as a result.

During our initial sessions she would completely give out during the workouts and would tell me "I AM DONE!" and she meant it. She wasn't able to continue for a full 45 minutes, even at 1/2 the intensity she's worked up to now. She would give out and give up and wondered if she would ever get better -- BUT she was always there for the next workout. She never quit.

After a good year of working together, and really striving to push her boundaries, she now runs 4 miles 2 times a week and gets 2-3 strength training sessions in. She has begun to look amazing and has amazing strength and stamina and feels better than she ever has before.

At a trip to the U.S. Open in New York City this past week, she ended up nursing some Poison Ivy which necessitated a visit by a doctor -- one she had never seen before, and after checking her vitals -- blood pressure at 106/60 and pulse at 60, he said to her, "you are an athlete, aren't you? You have the blood pressure of a 16 year old!"

She beamed with pride and delight. It was the day before her 59th birthday and she earned her amazing health, but not with as much effort as some would think. Adele works out 3 times a week. That's all. She's been diligent and as a result has gone from ill and overweight to light, sculpted and having the blood pressure of a 16 year old. It only took a year. What does your next year hold for you, [[name]]?

My second client showed up for her first 2 mile walk ever in a new sports-outfit which she looked fabulous in, and had a brand new pedometer on which she was anxious to see would track her 2 mile steps, and beamed as she shared her active weekend with me and reminded me about one day last week (we started some high-intensity bursts into her workout) she felt better than she has ever felt-in her whole life, like she was floating on air. Nothing hurt. She commented how she couldn't feel her feet and her breath came easy and she was moving effortlessly and it amazed her. To comment on how amazing that was, you have to know that she has lived with pain and effort up until just recently. Now she grins from ear-to-ear as she jumps rope and literally floats through the rest of her day.

Then my 11:30 showed up and told me about how she had been working out every single day since I last saw her. As we ran 3 miles for her 2nd or 3rd time (only), I was surprised to find that she was running 10 minute miles -- we last clocked her at 13 minute miles. Her fitness level has grown so much in just a few weeks that even I was getting a bit breathless talking to her as she ran. Then she shared a story from the weekend about how someone in her family was adamant that there was no way she could be a size 6 as she told them what size to get her for her birthday. Those who have known her longest don't "see" her as a 6. Their experience is that she is larger than that. But she is a 6 now and moving toward a size 4.

Their stories bring me such joy. My career allows me to truly give back to humanity. These stories, their life experiences, are not only due to their own discipline and effort, but to my love for them, and effective programming. Their lives have changed due to OUR relationship. There isn't much more of a purely joyful feeling than that realization. My job affects people's lives for the better and I love that. I thank God for that.

I am happy to share their stories with you. I hope as I wrote above that you become inspired to greater action, and would like to offer you one e-mail/e-chat question for me.

Give me your details in 200 words or less and ask me your one specific question and I'll address it for you for just five dollars. If there is something you've been wondering, here's your chance. Just remember that "first-come, first-served" and I'll answer the questions in the order I receive them, okay?
