My Favorite Supplement
January 2003. I don't remember the last time I was sick and had to go to the doctor, and I believe it's because of my favorite supplement. It is THE one that everyone is looking for, and I'm about to share it with you! It's so incredibly good, in fact, that it literally does ALL of the following:
I've just listed 45 clear and highly desired benefits, and they are all affordably within your reach--right where you are with IT!
When I recognized a cottage-cheese-looking growth on the backs of my arms at about age 30, I started looking for IT. At first, like you, I looked for IT in the stores. I went everywhere and was so grateful to find items that claimed that I could get abs of steel, look like the beautiful fitness model in 6 minutes a day or less, that I could eat all of the carbs that I wanted as long as I took their pill which would cause the nutrient to pass all the way through my body without stopping, and that I could do the same thing with fat! I found items that promised I could burn fat while I slept, and that said my life would be made easier, healthier, happier and safer while using their product, and Praise God and Hallelujah, that I could lose weight without dieting!!
I was so happy I tried one. And guess what? It didn't work. I thought that perhaps there was something wrong with me so I tried another one. And guess what? I got sick. I figured that the formula just wasn't the right one for me so I tried a 3rd one, and guess what? I got fatter! After trying a few, I got wise to the fact that these were all emotionally marketed products targeted to desperate aging females just like me, and they weren't going to work. So I went from products to diets. I tried "Sugar Busters" and was delighted to find that it kind of worked. I learned a lot about glycemic indexes and food, but it only gave me part of the equation. I think I started eating better then, but I still hadn't found the fountain of youth that I was looking for.
I wanted my high school body back, so I moved on to another program. "Body For Life" was getting to be popular then, and so I decided to try it. I was even more delighted to find that it worked pretty darn well. I mean I achieved about 15% body fat on it and became toned and better-looking than I had been in some time. I was really happy about that. But then the 12 Week Program ended. I was left to my own devices, and those bars were awfully good. I was very surprised to find that over the 3 months after my 12 Week Program I gained 5% body fat back even though I continued to exercise. I still didn't have the answer. I was looking for something that would provide all of the healthful benefits listed above, while keeping me lean and healthy for the rest of my life, so I decided to find it on my own.
Since then I've tried low-carb, high protein, and low-fat meal plans as well as minimum-cardio/ maximum strength training, minimum-strength training/maximum-cardio, over-training and under-training and every single combination of everything in between, and here's a what I've found. I finally found IT! In fact, I've stabilized healthily and peacefully at 13% body fat with IT. I'm strong and fit and can live this way forever and so can you. As you know, I work with individual women to help them "Become Better Than They Ever Dreamed Possible" and IT works for them, too. In fact, clients Amy , Ann , Sheila, and Susan all lost 3 pounds of fat in one week with IT last week!
Are you ready for IT? The fact is that there is no diet, no single popular program, and no pill that works healthfully for the long term, but some combination of what I'm about to detail works for everyone! The term "individual" means that each of us is different, with different chemistries, different lifestyles, different family structures, different interests, different support structures, different careers, different body types, different temperaments, different abilities to commit, and different levels of confidence, to name a few.
My self-prescription (i.e., IT) calls for a daily baseline of LOTS of good clean water, rest and all kinds of vegetables; MODERATE amounts of moderate-to-intense cardiovascular exercise, strength training, lean proteins, and good fats; LOW levels of starches, milk products and fruits, and OCCASIONAL processed sugar and saturated fats--you don't need sugar when there are products like Stevia and Splenda! In addition, I add daily doses of a good multivitamin, flax seed oil, joint formula, B vitamins, calcium/magnesium combination, CLA, primrose oil, and vitamin C, and I recommend these to my clients. Keep in mind that I said I prescribe this as as my own daily baseline and said earlier that we are all individuals, so most of my client's programs differ somewhat.
Here is an example of my typical week:
6am 1 egg and 1 egg white sprinkled with Mexican cheese on 1 slice rye toast and 1/2 pear, 1/2 of my vitamin/mineral supplements
9am 10 oz oatmeal made with whey protein, silk, Splenda, walnuts and berries
11:00 30 minutes of strength training, 30 minutes moderate to intense cardiovascular exercise, 2-4 days of the week
Noon 3oz of pan grilled ground turkey breast and 3oz baked sweet potatoes 3pm 3 oz grilled chicken on a large bed of mangoes, chili peppers, watercress, and green onions
6pm 3 oz salmon, 1 cup spiced beats, and 1 cup sweet-sour cucumbers
9pm 2 medium pancakes made with egg whites and protein powder, topped with spray butter and Log Cabin Sugar-Free Syrup, and the 2nd 1/2 of my vitamin/mineral supplements
9:30pm Bed, and I sleep like a baby
To make drinking water more interesting, I've found lots of herbal teas that I make and sweeten with Splenda, and drink all day long. My current favorite is a lemon-ginger tea which is fabulous! Herbal teas provide all of the benefits of water, with added flavor, and Splenda sweetens like sugar, without the insulin response. It has no calories so it doesn't contribute to increased body fat levels. I have a sweet tooth and have found a great way to satisfy it!
Because I'm driving from client-to-client all day, I fill my cooler with several individual refrigerated servings before I leave the house. And because, like you, I'm terribly busy all week with very little time to cook, I make 12-24 servings of whatever I'm cooking when I cook, and store them in individual serving packages in the refrigerator and freezer so that they are available when I need them.
My exercise is moderate to intense and goes something like this:
Monday: Lower body and cardio
Tuesday: Cardio
Wednesday: OFF
Thursday: Either back and biceps/cardio or chest and triceps/cardio (I alter each week)
Friday: Shoulders and cardio
Saturday: I might run if the weather is nice
Sunday: OFF
It doesn't have to kill me. I often just do 2 days a week if that's all I can manage. It's all about fitting in into my life, so some weeks I do more and some weeks I do less, but I always do some. I don't stress over it, and I make sure that I enjoy it when I'm there.
This may sound like a lot to you, but it isn't. With planning and initial change-management techniques, it becomes a very satisfying part of your regime in no time. Besides, if you think about it, what's more cumbersome, finding 30-60 minutes 3-4 times a week, or forking out thousands of dollars in physician's and psychiatric fees? Is this easier than battling cancer? You're darn right it is! Is it easier than the debilitation and poor self-esteem of obesity? YES! Is it easier than sinking into depression because you've lost track of yourself and are drowning in depression? ABSOLUTELY! If this could be bottled would I be a millionaire? YES! But I can't bottle it -- no one can. Don't believe anyone that says that they can. They are lying to you.
The only way you can truthfully and consistently observe all of the benefits listed at the beginning of this column for the rest of your life is by taking time each week to plan, and then implement your exercise and good nutrition. Or you can waste more time being at the mercy of your environment, making excuses, buying pills and powders, videos, creams, books and going from one thing to the next until you finally give in and start to exercise the truth (pun intended). I hope you don't waste too much time, though. You could be losing 2-6 inches and 1-3 pounds of fat every single week until you reach your target! Think about where you could be now, or where you can be 4 weeks from now!
I hope you believe you have just heard the truth, because you have and as you know, the truth always sets you free. Are you ready to be free? If so, you might consider contacting me for individual coaching, or consider purchasing my new e-book on-line, "At Home With The Body Sculptress, Become Better Than You Ever Dreamed Possible" which will provide you with everything you need to develop your own programming right in your own home.
